Description

Introduction

SLES paste-Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate 70% is a widely used and effective anionic surfactant in the formulation of cleaning products, personal care products, and cosmetics. It is derived from natural or synthetic fatty alcohols and ethylene oxide, making it a popular choice for those seeking plant-based and renewable ingredients.

SLES is known for its exceptional cleansing ability, high foaming capacity, and compatibility with various other ingredients, making it a versatile and essential component in a wide range of cosmetic and cleaning formulations.

SLES is classified as an anionic surfactant, meaning it has a negatively charged hydrophilic (water-loving) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail. This structure allows it to effectively interact with both water and oil, enabling the removal of dirt, grease, and other impurities from surfaces.

SLES is typically produced through the ethoxylation of fatty alcohols derived from natural sources such as coconut or palm kernel oil. The manufacturing process can involve the use of ethylene oxide, which requires careful handling due to its potential hazards.

Sodium Laureth Sulphate is considered SAFE by EWG (Environmental Working Group) as rating it EWG 1-3. Products with this ingredient are allowed for use in EWG VERIFIED but must meet use restrictions and warnings based on EWG review of company data. Only concern is for Industry or government recommendations for safe use: restrictions on concentration, impurities, product types, or manufacturing methods, if any.

SLES is widely regulated and approved for use in personal care and cleaning products by regulatory authorities such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union’s Cosmetics Regulation. It undergoes rigorous safety evaluations to ensure its suitability for consumer use.

Regarding its environmental impact, SLES is readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions and is considered environmentally friendly when used responsibly and in appropriate concentrations.

Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate 70% is a fast dissolving surfactant & the paste form concentration reduces freight charges and Storage Rent ultimately reduces CO2 emissions. Use for Enzyme stability & stain removing performance is enhanced with the use of SLES in the formulation.
